SCC EVENTS hands out Berlin race entries by lottery, and even runners with a fast qualifying time register through that same lottery form rather than a separate application. Runners can enter alone or as a team of two or three using a shared team code, and if a team is drawn every member gets a starting spot. The 215 EUR fee is only charged after the draw, and only to those assigned an entry. Starting spots belong to one named person and one edition: they cannot be passed to someone else or moved to another year, fees are not refunded, and Nordic walkers are not permitted on the 6:15 hour course.

An Abbott World Marathon Majors race organised by SCC EVENTS, run as the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON until 2026 and as the GENERALI BERLIN-MARATHON from 26 September 2027. Race entries are allocated by lottery, with fast runners holding a qualifying time registering through the same lottery form.

Tips
A Berlin team of two or three is drawn together, but after the draw each entry stands on its own, so one member dropping out does not cancel the others. Because the fee is only collected from those drawn, entering costs nothing up front. Fees are otherwise non-refundable, so decide on the cancellation insurance offered at registration before submitting.

Tips
Membership is capped and sold for the following year from December, so join the waitlist early if you want to be in the next intake. It renews automatically each year and is for one person only; treat it as an extra ticket in a small draw of 50 places per race rather than a guaranteed entry.

Virtual runs and other distances are rejected, and SCC EVENTS states that registering as a fast runner does not guarantee a spot.

Entering the Berlin Marathon from overseas

Nothing on the Berlin registration page limits the lottery to German residents, and everyone, drawn or not, gets an email with the result. Runners abroad who miss out can turn to the official tour operators in more than 50 partner countries, which the organiser says usually still have guaranteed spots long after the lottery; entries are sold only through the operators it lists, and other third-party sellers are not authorised. The Realbuzz charity portal covers UK, US and international charities offering guaranteed places.
